Uptown Whittier Development Plan

Uptown Whittier Development Plan utilizes characteristics of traditional California courtyard housing to create a framework for the entire development having a constant connection with the environment. Public, semi-private, and private outdoor amenity spaces become the primary focus for value creation within the development, linking commercial uses along Bailey Street to the residential units on the rest of the site.

The public park, identified in the Uptown Whittier Specific Plan, streets, paseos breezeways, courtyards, plazas, gardens, arcades, and pedestrian alley create a series of interconnected open space typologies that break down the development block size to a scale and fabric more conducive to vibrant people places. The collection of buildings designed to compliment these open spaces create a village-like setting within the development where each building has its own name, and therefore its own identity or distinction within the entire development – a neighborhood within a neighborhood.
